- Add life to vertical blinds
Don’t throw away your old vertical roman blinds. If you add a lick of paint, this can turn them in to a work of art. First, lay the romans blinds down on a flat surface. Spray the blinds first with a clear primer and then let it dry. For blinds made out of fabric, spray them with fabric spray paint, which is available at most craft stores. For metal or vinyl blinds, a latex home paint which is semi-gloss applied with a roller will be most effective. The design of the room could determine the colour of paint. Make sure to use two to three coats and then let it dry before re-hanging the blinds.
- Revamp a dresser
A wardrobe or dresser found at a second-hand or vintage shop or even in your own attic can be an interesting piece for the bedroom when you apply a distressed ivory finish. First, make sure to empty the piece of furniture and clean it thoroughly. Any debris should also be dusted off. Then, the primer needs to be applied to the dresser making sure to spray any pieces of the drawers that stick out such as the knobs. Painter’s tape should be used to cover any hardware, such as metal knob. Let the primer then dry. After this spray one coat of brown medium outdoor on the furniture. When that dries follow with two coats of ivory outdoor paint. Leave some time for the wardrobe or dresser to completely dry. Sand the raised areas and edges and with sandpaper so that the brown paint is still visible, then wipe clean. When you are satisfied, use two lighter coats of a matte finish, and protect the surface use clear sealer spray.
- Wall decor
Simple stencils are a cost-effective way to decorate walls and what what’s great is that no artistic experience is needed. Cut off the back or front panel of an old cereal box. Alternatively use any type of flexible, thin cardboard. On the inside of the cardboard, draw a stencil of a pattern. Those who don’t fancy this can easily find a stencil online, print it off, and then trace round it. Use a small sharp knife to carefully cut out the stencil. Place the stencil up to wall where you want the design to go. If the pattern is to go around the room, measure where you want each stencil to go to avoid mistakes. Using stencil acrylic paint or crème, then paint the shapes out of the cardboard. Repeat this process as many times as is needed. If the stencils are used in a high traffic area of your home, finish the job with finish two to three days after painting with a clear coat of sealer.
