Bringing Santa to your garden shed

Christmas time is all about spending quality time with loved ones and spreading joy to those we hold dear. However, pleasing everybody at once can sometimes prove a difficult task. At the end of the day, those who you really want to please are the children.

One way to ensure that the children are entertained this Christmas is to create a winter wonderland in your back garden. Fairly lights shining from trees, holly hanging from the fence and wreaths displayed on doors are just the start. Everything’s decorated but the garden shed.

So then it occurred to me. Why not turn that dull, unexciting garden shed into Santa’s grotto? That’s a sure fire way to impress the kids, and grownups alike.

The first step would of course be to clear out the shed by removing all contents and placing them in a separate storage area. Transfer all machinery and contents to a secure place, preferably a garage or basement. Depending on how much equipment and tools you keep in there, the shed may need a thorough clean up to create a fresh and polished look. Let’s face it would have to be a special occasion for you to want to clean the interior of your garden shed.

Once the room is clear of all contents you can now begin decorating the interior of the grotto. By using traditional Christmas decorations such as fairy lights, tinsel and stockings you can create a very festive atmosphere. Decorative wall sheets can be used to cover the interior walls.

It is important to remember that Santa is going to need somewhere to sit. Re-vamp an old chair into the perfect decorative feature by varnishing and adding reds and greens for extra effect.

Now all that remains is the standard goodies and treats. Presents and candy are the obvious essentials to keep the little ones happy. And of course, Santa’s grotto would not be complete without Santa, Mrs Santa and their little elf’s……now where did I put that costume?
